Ionode Discontinuous Flow Analyzer for Automated Chemical Analysis. 
The instrument is fully automated, and includes an integrated sample changer and interchangeable mixer/detector modules. An indication of the compact size may be obtained by comparison with the notebook computer used to operate the instrument. With the sample changer removed, the instrument may be used for on-line process control analysis. The instrument as shown was outfitted for acid-base titrimetry, using an optical indicator and a photometric mixer/detector module. Speed of analysis was 180 determinations per hour, although other titration applications at speeds up to 720 determinations per hour have been reported. Photometric, pH, ISE, conductometric and thermometric sensors have been developed, as well as a turbine mixer and a patented electromagnetic reed mixer.  Multiple analytical methodologies including titrimetry, photometry and potentiometry  can be run on the same instrument. It is ideal for on-line analysis of industrial process streams, as well as in the natural environment. The technology is covered by a network of patents.

Discontinuous Flow Analysis (DFA) is superior to other flow injection analysis technologies such as Flow Injection Analysis (FIA) and Air Segmented Flow Analysis (ASFA). DFA can offer auto-calibration of AAS and ICP spectrometers, as well as ISE's (before or after every sample if required), essentially without loss of analytical productivity. DFA also offers auto-diagnostic capabilities, in that the internal consistency of measurement can be assessed in real time. This addresses the core of analytical quality control objectives.
